Related Story: Murderer, alleged hijacker caught after 41 years Map: Portugal A court in Portugal has denied a US request for the extradition of a convicted American killer who spent more than 40 years on the run.The Lisbon court denied the request to extradite George Wright so he could serve the rest of his 30-year sentence in the US.In 1962 Wright was jailed for murder, but escaped seven years later.In 1972, he hijacked a Miami-bound plane while dressed as a priest and carrying a gun hidden in a hollowed-out Bible.He demanded police officers dressed only in swimming costumes give him $US1 million before letting the passengers go and ordering the pilot fly him to Algeria.He was finally tracked down two months ago living with his wife and children in Portugal.The court ruled the 68-year-old is a Portuguese citizen and is in poor health, and should be allowed to stay with his family.
